Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when my contract period expires?

add add minus
Don't worry, your power will not be disconnected. After your contract expiration date, your account will default to a variable rate unless and until you decide to renew your contract. We highly recommend renewing your IronHorse contract in order to lock in a fixed rate. Doing so helps ensure stable and predictable energy costs, shields you from the fluctuations of the energy market, and provides peace of mind knowing you are protected from sudden increases in rates. What is a TDU in the Texas electricity market?

add add minus

A Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) is responsible for maintaining the physical infrastructure, like power lines and transformers, that delivers electricity to homes and businesses in Texas, regardless of which Retail Electric Provider (REP) you choose.

Note: while you have a choice of which provider to use, you don’t have a choice about your TDU. This is determined by which area your service address is located.

What should I do if there's an outage or power line issue?

In case of an outage or issues like downed power lines, you should contact your TDU directly. They are responsible for repairing and maintaining the electrical infrastructure.

Are TDU fees the same across all providers?

add add minus
Yes, TDU fees are the same regardless of which REP you choose. These fees are regulated and set by the PUCT and are charged by the TDU servicing your area. They are a pass-through cost on your electricity bill, meaning REPs collect these fees on behalf of TDUs without markup.
